Dr. Stephanie Hurder is a Partner and Founding Economist of Prysm Group, a firm specializing in economic and governance design for blockchain and distributed ledger-based projects. Dr. Hurder combines tools from cutting-edge economics research in incentive and market design with blockchain expertise to design successful blockchain consortia and token economies. Her advisory clients include Big Four accounting firms, Fortune 100 companies, and startups backed by Andreessen Horowitz, Sequoia, Union Square Ventures, Google Ventures, and Y Combinator with over $5B in total funding.
Dr. Hurder is an academic advisor to blockchain projects at the World Economic Forum and an Opinion Columnist for CoinDesk, where she writes a monthly column on the economics of emerging technologies. She regularly teaches and presents her research on economics and blockchain at conferences and universities worldwide. Recent invitations include SXSW, Consensus, Stanford, the Simons Institute at UC Berkeley, the University of Cambridge, the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland, Berlin Blockchain Week, and the IBM Blockchain Accelerator. Dr. Hurder is a co-organizer of San Francisco Blockchain Week (2019, 2020) and a member of the Program Committees of CESC (2019, 2020) and FC (2020, 2021).
Prior to co-founding Prysm Group, Dr. Hurder was a management consultant at the Boston Consulting Group and an academic researcher at the MIT Sloan School of Management. Dr. Hurder received an AB in Mathematics Phi Beta Kappa and magna cum laude, an AM in Economics, and a Ph.D. in Business Economics from Harvard University, where she was advised by Professors Claudia Goldin and Nobel Laureate Al Roth.
